Meet Your Hosts

Laura Bourhenne and Kim Rinehardt share their stories of how they connected and what sparked their journeys into the dog training world.

Laura's path began with a strong academic foundation at Moorpark College's Exotic Animal Training & Management Program. There, she immersed herself in animal husbandry, and Operant and Classical Conditioning, gaining the essential knowledge to pursue her aspirations as an animal trainer. Her initial foray into the field involved a seasonal role in the Animal Show at Universal Studios. Soon after starting, an intriguing opportunity arose: a Santa Monica family needed her expertise to train their pot-bellied pig, who also lived with dogs and later, a few birds. This marked the inception of Laura's private pet training business. Following her time at Universal Studios, she dedicated herself to growing this venture, specializing in dog and pig behavior to foster harmonious relationships between people and their animal companions.

Laura's commitment to her profession is evident in her credentials: she is certified through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT), holds the title of Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (CDBC) with the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC), and is a Certified Training Partner (CTP) through the Karen Pryor Academy. Her hands-on approach to understanding canine instincts extends beyond training, as she has actively participated in agility and nosework competitions and even explored the nuances of herding – both for deeper insight and personal enjoyment.

Kim's introduction to the canine world was through grooming and obedience competitions. Her innate talent and understanding of dogs naturally led others to seek her guidance, setting her on course to becoming a professional dog trainer.

During her career, Kim broadened her experience by working at a dog rehabilitation facility. There, she utilized hydrotherapy to help dogs build strength and confidence. Like Laura, Kim has also engaged in various canine activities, including grooming competitions, agility, nosework, and her own exploration into the world of herding.

Kim's professional dedication is reflected in her certification through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT), her status as a Supporting Member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC), and her membership in the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT).

Their paths intertwined through a shared connection after a significant event in Laura's life: the sudden loss of her pitbull. Shortly thereafter, Kim rescued a stray pitbull. When the dog remained unclaimed, their mutual friend recognized an opportunity and introduced Laura to Kim. This led to Laura adopting Stoney, and a lasting friendship blossomed between the two women.
