Show Dogs Stolen in Los Angeles

Four show dogs, 2 Akitas and 2 Corgis worth approx. $500,000, and the van they were sleeping in were stolen sometime Monday night or early Tuesday morning from the parking lot of a Bellflower Motel 6.  The van is a 2006 white Chevy Express Cargo Van with a black box on the back and paw print decals on the windows.  The license plate number is 8D50252.  If you see the van please call 911 or the Bellflower Sheriff’s Station (562) 925-0124 immediately.

Should L.A. Residents Be Allowed Additional Pets?

There is a heated discussion going on among Los Angeles City Council members regarding whether or not to increase the pet limit for L.A. residents.  Currently, the limit is 3 dogs/cats, but the new Head of the Department of Animal Services and 2 City Council members want to increase that number to five.

Proponents of the law say it will help increase revenues for the city as well as get more pets out of an already crowded shelter system.  Opponents say it will cause more noise pollution with barking dogs, etc…

Personally, I think an increase in the number of pets is a good thing.   There are people losing their homes and their beloved pets are ending up in the shelter.  But if they have a friend who would take their pet if not for the 3 pet law that would be one less animal in the shelter.  Plus, the laws regarding barking dogs will still be in effect, so if a neighbor complains AC gets called out, just like now.  If a responsible pet owner has 3 dogs now and can keep them quiet then the likelihood of them keeping 5 dogs quiet is pretty good.  As long as people can care for them properly, give them great homes and medical care what difference does it make?  New York City, as crowded as it is, does not have a limit on the number of animals someone can have as long as they are well cared for and people don’t complain.  Why can’t it be the same here?

California Vet Med Board trying to prevent rehab for pets

The California Veterinary Medical Board is trying to prevent anyone other than a veterinarian from performing any type of rehab therapy for our pets.  This includes swim therapy, chiropractic, laser therapy, underwater treadmill, and other therapeutic modalities.  Most vets don’t know about therapy and are happy to refer to someone who does.  Most vets don’t want to go back to school to take courses on rehab therapy.  This means that it will be much more difficult to find someone to help our pets when they need it the most!!!

Please contact your State Senator today and tell them you want them to vote “NO” on AB 1980, as amended on June 7, 2010. For the sake of our pets.  Voting takes place on Monday, Aug. 9th, so please do this ASAP!!  And spread the word.
